Casual Costumes: Workout Edition #3- Tris Prior

Since last week's CC Workout was about Katniss, I figured this week's would be about another badass dystopian female. Tris Prior fits that description perfectly. She came from the calmest of the factions (Abnegation), to join the toughest (Dauntless), only to realize that she was in fact Divergent- causing her all kinds of trouble and reasons to fight. Get your Tris on with this great look from Target!

Casual Costumes: Workout Edition #2- Katniss Everdeen

I would be remiss if I didn't do a CC Workout Edition that didn't include badass Katniss! She's pretty much the epitome of  modern-day-yet-set-in-a-dystopian-future female strength.

Once again, everything pictured can be purchased at Target, so you don't have to break the bank to get a cute Katniss inspired workout outfit!

And if workout gear isn't your jam, I created a regular Casual Costume back in 2014 for your everyday needs (that's still surprisingly relevant). You can check that out here.

Casual Costumes: Workout Edition #1- Wonder Woman

I have been trying to get into shape lately, and with that comes lots of visits to the gym. I can't say I have been very successful so far, but at least I'm trying! Inspired by the month (hello Halloween!) and all the costumes that are around, I thought I'd do a couple of Casual Costumes with workout wear. To get it started is the strongest woman around- Wonder Woman!

Everything I used can be found at Target! Who doesn't love a reason to shop at Target, right?! And PS, even though that headband is in the girls' section, it totally stretches to fit an adult head. I know- I own it!

Poppin' Off- 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

I love when Target collaborates with designers, I really do. There used to be a time in my life when I would buy a piece from every collab that they did. While that has certainly changed, I had a serious countdown going for this 3.1 Phillip Lim collaboration, and I knew some pieces were coming home with me.

I think in the nerd world, everyone was obsessing about the top two items (plus the navy blue Boom sweater dress, but I found that to be hideous), just because of their comic book look. And of course, I love them for that reason, but they also appear to be really well made, which is unusual for Target clothes these days (sorry Target). There are other pieces to love in collection though. Like the Sparkle Sweater above and the dual color trench coats (love!!!).Here in town, all of our Target stores (we have four), have really limited numbers of everything in this collection. I saw the Sparkle Sweater the day the collection was released, went back the next day to get it and it was gone. I had to go down a size in the Boom sweatshirt for that same reason (I ended up buying my actual size. For sweatshirts I like to buy at least a size up for extra coziness). You can't sleep on this collection, that's for sure. If you want it, and its in your size, buy it!

Poppin' Off- Feed Project+Target and Monsters University

So this week's Poppin' Off is another two-fer, but these things aren't really related to one another. I just really love Monsters University and the Feed Project/Target collaboration.

*There are no intentional spoilers here. But if even vague overviews ruin things for you, do not continue reading*

Okay, Monsters University. Monsters, Inc came out my senior year of high school and I fell in love with it. All these years later, and not only do I still love it, but my kids love it. So we were all really excited to hear about Monsters University being released. I finally got to see it this Tuesday and it was such a cute movie. If you're worried about it being a rehash of Monsters Inc, don't be. Aside from seeing some of the characters from the first movie, there are no similarities. It shows you Mike's journey to his first dream of attending Monsters University and how he meets Sulley. It was really surprising to me that their educational journey didn't go as planned (its really hard to talk about it without giving that part of the story away), but it also wasn't because Disney is always good for a hidden morals lesson. And there were two big ones in this movie, which I can appreciate. The first: your actions have consequences, and you better be prepared for them. And secondly: work hard, keep moving forward, and you can achieve your dreams (which is a theme they put in a lot of their movies, Walt Disney was big on that). The movie is great, it really is. I definitely recommend seeing it, even if you don't have kids.

For the past few month I had been seeing magazine adds for a Target and Feed Project collaboration. I almost marked it on my calendar, that's how excited I was (am) for it. The Feed Project was founded by Lauren Bush Lauren in 2007, and each purchased Feed item helps feed families around the world. The collaboration with Target is especially great because 1) the proceeds are going to feed families here in America and 2) the pairing with Target has brought the price point down a little bit, so its affordable for more people. I've already purchased the kitchen towels, the snack bags, and the two pack deck of cards and I fully intend on buying more before the collaboration is over. All the items are super cute, and it goes towards a great cause.

Poppin' Off- Man of Steel and Justice League at Target

This week's Poppin' Off is a Two-Fer! Man Of Steel and the Justice League summer collection at Target.

First up is the Justice League summer collection. I have a Target shopping problem to begin with- I should own stock in Target, that's how much I spend there. So when I saw all the mega cute Justice League items....I really had to exercise self control. I love, love, love all the star prints (I have a thing for stars). I bought the over-sized picnic blanket in the black and white star print, the bistro table in the blue star print, the Batman gardening gloves for my son, the gardening tool sets for both my kids (blue and red stars for my son, pink and purple stars for my daughter), and the kids ground umbrella in blue with red stars for all our outdoor adventures. I also bought the friendship bracelet kit that has Wonder Woman charms and the color-your-own tote bag with the Justice League members on it. There are still so many things I'd like to buy! But their inventories are dwindling, so I can't help but think that it will be gone soon (they start putting out school supplies in the seasonal section around mid July so...). What do you think of the Justice League Collection?

Superman movies always get a bum rap. Fans and critics alike seem to have a love/hate relationship with them and its usually more hate than love. To be completely honest, I don't think I've ever seen a Superman movie aside from Man of Steel. My introduction to Superman came in the form of Dean Cain playing him in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman on teevee with Teri Hatcher teetering after him as a ditzy Lois Lane, so my expectations weren't set particularly high. Shame on me. Man of Steel was outstanding. Its also a great movie to see if you're not to familiar with Superman's back story- a lot of it was explained.

Critics had a lot of negative things to say about it- Christopher Nolan should've been allowed to do more (not necessarily a negative, but the movie was made well as is), there were too many flashbacks and there were too many religious references. I found that the flashbacks to be cohesive with the story line. Whenever he had a flashback, the transition was seamless and the flashbacks really help you connect with this Superman- to see where hes been and what hes been through. The religious references are there- there's no denying it. But even the most hardened Atheist could view them as parental sacrifice and morality struggles instead of religious references if they wanted, and I don't see why someone would take those few references and pan a whole movie for it.

All in all, it was a very good movie. And Henry Cavill is a very sexy Superman. Go check it out.
